Canada is one of the most attractive countries for immigrants. With its low population density and the rising demand for skilled workers, it accepts hundreds of thousands of immigrants each year. Immigration applications are managed by CIC (Immigration and Citizenship Canada). Here, we will focus on the method of express entry and how you can seek legal advice to improve your chances of successful immigration.
Express Entry is an accelerated process for immigration in Canada. It allows the CIC to consider applications for permanent residence in three programs:
It is possible for Provinces and territories to select candidates in the Express Entry pool and nominate them for a specific provincial program which would automatically grant the applicant 600 points. These programs are designed to allow the provinces to ensure that they can supply the needs of their labour market. The Ministry provides directions each year to manage the Express Entry program. Below are a few steps that describe the process of express entry:
The first step in this process is to create your Express Entry profile. This is a detailed online profile which includes information like education, professional skills, language proficiency, work experience and other important details. You need to complete this initial profile within 60 days. Once you have completed your profile, you become part of the Express Entry Pool. This enables you to be selected in the next immigration draw.
Job Bank is available for pool participants so that they can find a job. Depending on the job offer, an applicant will gain points on their application hence boosting their chances of being issued an invitation to apply by CIC.
Successful candidates are selected using a well-defined system known as the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS score decides the successful candidates for each Express Entry program. All important factors that are mentioned in your profile are used to calculate your CRS score.
Once you have been issued an invitation to apply, you have 90 days to complete your application. Most applications are fully processed within a period of six months. Your profile remains valid for 12 months. You can always update your profile in case there is additional or new information.
Express Entry is a great way to immigrate to Canada. However it is best to consult with a lawyer so that you can complete an initial assessment and understand your score before throwing yourself in the pool. An immigration lawyer will be able to also advise you on other possible ways of entering Canada, depending on your circumstances.
